In Part 3 we will go through how to throw this kick on the bag to develop power and accuracy. I will also discuss where you want to strike your opponent to cause maximum damage. We will also talk about how and when to use this kick in sparring competition. Although we will cover from basic to advanced rather quickly, never forget, repetition is the key. If you want to be lightning fast, practice this technique about 5,000 times, seriously!

Jamie- thank you for the feedback, I am glad you like the videos! As you practice this kick let me know how it’s working for you. One other note not covered in the video, you can actually practice 3 variations with the Tornado. You can throw it moving forward to cover distance, stationary, and moving back from inside. Train Hard!

I watched all three of your videos on the Tornado Kick. My teacher Master Choi has started me with the hopping around as in your 2nd video. However, I did learn that I should be going further around before doing the kick. I will be praticing what you have put in your videos probably 500 times to get ready for my tournament on Saturday. The videos were very informative and helped with some of the stuff that Master Choi left out. I like my teacher though. Thanks!

Teresas,
Good luck in the tournament on Saturday! I would recommend that you practice the roundhouse- tornado combination for more speed for you and confusion for your opponent. Tournaments are not the place to practice new sparring techniques though. I am glad you have a great instructor, good to hear!!

I agree with you about using this in sparring. Especially against a
blackbelt. The tornado kick requires a lot of speed and timing. I wouldn’t even use it in an actual self-defense situation. A little
bit too flashy and easy to defend against. The same is true with sparring and competition. It is always a good idea to keep things
simple, controlled, and in combination. I am pretty good with the Tornado kick and I have never used it in competition or sparring.

I’m very impressed with your speed, power and accuracy. It looks like a powerful kick, perhaps I’ll get to try it against a heavy bag someday.
