In this video I will show you a great technique to help improve your martial arts stretching. If you add this to your normal stretching routine you will find that you are able to throw higher kicks in a relatively short time. Make sure you take your time and don’t try to do this drill too fast. If you move slowly you will build strength and this will help you avoid injury. I would suggest that you practice this drill 3 times per week to get the most out of it. Don’t make the mistake of skipping all of your normal stretches or you won’t see the benefits of this drill. Good Luck and Train Hard!

I really like your videos Master Scott. I study a completely different style but, what you teach has universal application to it, even if some of the details are different. once again, great video. Jason

Lee,
I would sit down with your instructor and politely ask him why your not able to test. If he says your not ready find out what you need to work on and do it. If it’s a matter of time between testings that is quite common, I have a 4-6 month waiting period for students at your level. If you still have questions please let me know! Good luck!

Master Scott,
I have a real problem with getting in shape, like raising my flexibility and muscle strength. I’m not sure exactly why. I’ve never actually been in shape but I’m a natural athlete (I think I’ve been taking advantage of that).
In the last year I’ve tried a number of workout techniques but none seem to help. What happens is, after getting a good workout the next day all my muscles I was working out become extremely sore, for days to weeks at a time. An hour of hard workout and I could be sore for a week, even if I rest everyday. I know being sore is normal but for so long? I believe my problem is I push too far and become sore so long that by the time I work out again I lose the progress I made and start over, but I’m not sure.
Every trainer will tell me to “push yourself” and I have a really high pain tolerance so I try to push myself but not as hard as I can or I find myself sore for several weeks. My real question is: Should I really push myself? Or is it better if I really take it slow; like if I start to feel tired at all just stop and next day do the same ’til I can go longer without getting tired? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Also note that I am very out of shape– not fat or even chubby, just I never work out anymore or get any kind of exercise. Mainly because I never see progress– I will work out for an hour or so then be sore for a week, then work out another hour be sore for a week ect and doesn’t seem to improve so I just gave up. Age 18 btw.
