Karate Online- Outside In Axe Kick

In this video I will explain how to do the Outside In Axe Kick. I like this kick for two very important reasons, first, it’s great for Taekwondo tournaments. It’s easy to score points or a knockout by landing this one on the bridge of the nose. Second, by practicing this kick you will stretch out your hamstrings over time. Just be careful not to throw this kick cold or try to throw it too high too fast. Once again, never use this kick in self-defense or any type of tournament where you can punch to the face. You are to vulnerable to someone with quick hand speed.

I didn’t know the axe kick was allowed in tournaments.
The last time I competed, no face shots, nothing below
the belt, no sweeps or throws and no axe kick.
Mainly because the risk for injury is too great.
The head gear did not protect your head much.
The only way you could hit someone is top of their
    head, side of head.

My instructor told me you can hurt someone seriously
hitting them on top of their head with an axe kick.

    Robert,

In many local tournaments they have what are known as “safety rules” to keep people from getting hurt. This is a good thing for juniors and colored belts; however, it is a major hindrance for black belts age 17-34 who want to compete nationally. In Olympic Style Taekwondo it is full contact for black belts. I do agree with your instructor, this kick causes instant damage when landed correctly, but that is a risk that every competitor takes when they decide to fight full contact.

Thanks for your comment Robert, it really helps our community! Good luck and train hard!!
